Claudia holds a degree in Social Anthropology from Washington University in Saint Louis, and a Master’s degree in Public Health with a focus on Maternal and Child Health from the University of California at Berkeley. Claudia was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and has lived in South America and the United States for the past ten years. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Peru, where she worked on rural technologies and teen pregnancy prevention through youth empowerment and comprehensive sexual education. Claudia has qualitative and quantitative research experience on women’s social movements in Argentina and preterm birth in Puerto Rico. She joined Rise Up in 2013 and is the Program Manager for Latin America and the Youth Champions Initiative. Among her professional interests are advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and access to health and education for young people. She directed and produced Atraso Menstrual, a Peruvian documentary and educational tool that engages youth in sexual health conversations. She is passionate about photography and filmmaking, and the use of audiovisual material to generate discussion.
