Originally from Kenya, Mwende has lived and worked in Louisiana for many years with marginalized New Orleans youth, connecting social justice, reproductive health, and racial and economic justice. In addition to this work, Mwende is an artist and a poet. Her poems address issues of racism, violence against black women, and other critical topics.
