On April 30, Rise Up’s Evening of Impact brought together leaders and changemakers who share a passion for advancing gender equity and justice. The event was a celebration of our global impact and continued commitment to creating a just and equitable world for women, girls, and gender-nonconforming people.
Overwhelming generosity helped us surpass the evening’s $300,000 goal, demonstrating the power of our community at a time when global challenges demand bold and immediate action. These critical funds will help fuel the transformative advocacy of Rise Up Leaders around the world like Betty Adera, who traveled from Kenya to share her powerful story at the event.

Betty is the Founder and President of the Betty Adera Foundation International and a globally recognized advocate dedicated to preventing gender-based violence for girls and women. Recently named one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Africa for Gender Equality, Betty is creating new pathways to education for Kenya’s most marginalized adolescent girls, with training and funding from Rise Up.
“In Kenya, Rise Up is a game-changer – investing in grassroots leaders like me and equipping us with the skills, resources, and networks to drive policy change,” Betty shared. “Prioritizing girls’ education is at the core of our work to prevent and combat gender-based violence.”
Our Evening of Impact also celebrated a key milestone: Rise Up’s transition to an independent organization later this year, as we separate from our fiscal sponsor, the Public Health Institute. As we prepare for this next chapter, your support is essential to ensure Rise Up can continue partnering with local leaders to create a world where all people can thrive.
As Denise shared at the event: “We are here. We are doing the work. We are not giving up and we know you won’t either.”
