Early Insights: Lessons at the Intersection of Climate and Gender

Learnings from 530+ organizations and global leaders

Over the past several months, Rise Up Together has been listening.

Across five focus countries – Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and the United States – our team has engaged climate and gender justice leaders to better understand how climate change is shaping the lives of women and girls – and what is needed to respond.

Today, we’re sharing an early look at what we’ve learned.

We’re proud to release the executive summary of our new report, Lessons at the Intersection of Climate and Gender.

Drawing on insights from over 500 organizations and conversations with movement leaders from around the world, this work reinforces what we have been seeing across our network:

Climate change is not a distant or abstract issue – it is a lived reality, especially for historically marginalized communities. And its impacts are deeply gendered, disproportionately harming women and girls.

From environmental degradation that disrupts livelihoods and displaces communities, to systemic barriers that limit women’s access to resources and decision-making, climate change is intensifying existing inequalities while reshaping daily life.

At the same time, this research highlights something equally important: solutions already exist.

Around the world, local leaders are advancing innovative, community-driven approaches – from strengthening food systems and restoring ecosystems to building new economic opportunities and advocating for policy change.

But these efforts face persistent barriers: limited funding, gaps in data and evidence, and restricted access to decision-making spaces.

Our findings point to a clear path forward – one that centers local leadership, strengthens collaboration, and invests in long-term, systems-level change.

This report marks an important step in deepening our understanding of how climate and gender justice intersect in practice – and how we can better support the leaders driving this work forward.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the full report and continuing to explore what these insights mean for our work, our global community, and our shared future.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
