In October 2014, six young women from around Malawi participated in “Girls Behind the Camera,” an intensive six-day technical workshop focused on media advocacy. In addition to sharpening their digital storytelling skills, the girls wrote, produced, directed and recorded this nine-minute video sharing their experiences overcoming abuse and injustice. Each girl’s story focuses on a key issue area she is working on – including access to education, child marriage, and sexual assault – to make a positive impact for girls in her community. The video premiered at the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN. It is also being screened around Malawi to advocate for girl protections.
