Mariana is a psychologist with training in gender and human rights. As the leader of Apoyare, García Cedillo Foundation A.C., she promotes sexual health rights and the prevention of different forms of violence for indigenous women. She is an activist whose work is mainly focused on women from the indigenous area of the southern Huasteca. She is also a college professor and researcher, who uses participative methodologies for health care and violence prevention and a national counselor with the National Center for Prevention and Control of HIV.
