– Jennifer N. Broome, MA, CFRE, Rise Up’s Director of Strategic Partnerships
Most recently Jennifer served as the Vice President of Philanthropy at Prosperity Now, where she led a team of fundraising and communications professionals and managed multiple revenue streams in service to Prosperity Now’s mission to eliminate racial economic injustice and build an economy that is just, fair, and free from structural racism. Previously, she led fundraising efforts for American Forests, the nation’s oldest forestry restoration non-profit, the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a nonpartisan think tank working to reduce threats from nuclear, biological, chemical, radiological, and cyber weapons, and the George Washington University Libraries, a multi-library system of rich academic resources and unique Special Collections serving four campuses. She also has experience working in disaster relief and international aid and development, having served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar.
With a master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Jennifer believes that philanthropy can have a transformational impact on both the donor and the recipient. It can generate optimism in the face of cynicism, provide solutions to intractable societal problems, and counterbalance forces that divide communities. She enjoys the process of “matchmaking” a donor’s passion with an organization’s vision and takes pride in enabling the generosity of funders which makes possible lasting social change.
She is actively involved in the Association of Fundraising Professionals and volunteers with several nonprofits in the Washington D.C. metro area, where she resides. She is an avid traveler, a voracious reader, and a lover of the outdoors. She speaks fluent French and enjoys the arts, history, hiking, kayaking, and jigsaw puzzles.
