This month Rise Up lost a fierce activist and advocate for equity and justice in Mexico. Guadalupe “Lupita” Arellano became a Rise Up Leader in 2018. Throughout her career, she advocated to increase women’s participation in decision-making spaces so that women can live free from violence and reach their full potential. With support from Rise Up, Lupita recently led a program to strengthen the political advocacy skills and knowledge of adolescent girls in the municipality of Querétaro, Mexico.
Lupita was part of the first cohort of Rise Up Leaders in Mexico. The entire Rise Up team and the community of Rise Up Leaders in Mexico are deeply saddened by this loss and grateful to have known her. Over the years, Lupita taught us a lot by sharing her experience and knowledge, always with kindness and respect.
